Strong, Beautiful, Brave & Smart is a story of a mother's journey through her initial fears of a Down syndrome diagnosis and the lesson she learns from her daughter herself. The story is loosely based on mantras Taryn speaks to her daughter Rhea as they remind each other she is strong, beautiful, brave and smart.
For such a personal book, Taryn knew this had to be a family affair. Strong, Beautiful, Brave & Smart is foreworded and edited by her sister, Lauren Bretscher, and beautifully illustrated by her cousin and goddaughter, Joanna Catalano. We can't wait for you to share it with the little ones in your life!
Ups, Downs & Silver Linings is about love, loss, unexpected gifts and finding the beauty through all of it. Taryn takes readers through a battle with depression and anxiety, family health issues, the loss of both her mom and mother in law and a Down syndrome diagnosis and heart surgery for her youngest daughter. Taryn details her journey of stepping into the advocate role in the Down syndrome and disability community. She also covers the shifting narratives in her own mind throughout the early days of the diagnosis.
Through it all, Taryn stays focused on gratitude, growth, and finding the silver linings in any situation and hopes that readers are inspired to do the same.
Dear Mama is a collection of letters written by moms representing many types of disabilities, as well as a self-advocate herself.
With all of the overwhelming information you get when you receive a diagnosis, we wanted a mom picking up this book to look at this cover, feel peaceful, and know that it was safe for her heart to read it. We also think the stories within these pages will inspire almost anyone, even those not currently touched by disability. We like to think of this book as a chicken soup for the soul within the disability space.
Taryn Lagonigro, Ups, Downs & Silver Linings
This book is deeply personal for me, so it felt incredibly important for the cover to be representative of that. The colors blue and yellow represent Down syndrome for my daughter Rhea and the purple represents yoga, calm and balance in my life. The elements of the cover were shaded by my daughters Sofia, Layla and Genevieve and digitally formatted into one picture by the incredibly talented Kristin Broek. It was Kristin’s idea to incorporate the girls’ drawings into the cover and now I can’t imagine it any other way. They have created the color in my life every day since they each arrived, and I love that their work is the first thing you will see when you look at this book.
